A SEER rating, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, is a measurement used to gauge how energy-efficient an air conditioning unit is. When you’re considering an AC install, the SEER rating tells you how much cooling output you get per unit of energy consumed. In simple terms, a higher SEER rating means that the AC unit is more efficient, which can lead to lower electricity bills.
Starting from January 1, 2023, new AC installs must have a minimum SEER of 15. A 16 SEER unit is more energy-efficient than a 14 SEER. This means it cools the same area but uses less electricity, resulting in lower energy bills. While a 16 SEER unit may cost more upfront, it can offer long-term savings.
